Alanson B. Houghton is Managing Director. Alan leads Pitcairn’s New York relationship management team, advising multi-generational families. He is primarily responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring long-term investment programs and financial plans that meet clients’ short-term needs and long-term objectives. Alan interacts with clients on a daily basis and collaborates with members of Pitcairn’s tax, investments, planning, trust administration, and operations teams to design and implement appropriate investment strategies and financial and estate plans. In particular, he focuses on strategic and tactical asset allocation, succession planning, generational wealth transfer planning, and tax optimization strategies to achieve the goal of wealth preservation for clients. Alan is a member of Pitcairn’s Investment Strategy, Due Diligence, Operating, and Technology committees.
Alan has over 20 years of experience in the investment management and family office industries. Prior to joining Pitcairn, Alan was Principal and Chief Investment Officer of Shelterwood Financial Services, a multi-family office based in New York. In addition to his investment responsibilities (involving investment strategy, portfolio management, and oversight relating to the selection and monitoring of third-party investment managers), Alan was also responsible for client service.
Additionally, Alan served for 11 years as non-executive chairman of Market Street Trust Company, a family-owned financial services business in Corning, New York, where he is now a director and member of the Investment, Nominating and Governance, and Trust Loan committees. He also serves on the Investment Committee for a single family office/private trust, and sits on the Advisory Board for Relative Solutions, a family governance and educational consulting firm.
Alan earned a BA from Denison University.
