Shared Family Activity from Pitcairn's Wealth as Well-Being Inventory

Family gatherings, whether in-person or virtual, have become especially significant over the last several months. Now more than ever, every time a family gets together is an opportunity to form deeper connections and create shared meaning. The next time the family gets together, consider planning the following activity:

Have each family member make a list of their personal intellectual capital. Intellectual Capital is what you know and what you have learned, both formally and informally. This includes any area of expertise or interest - from having a master’s degree to being an amateur sailor to knowing how to bake the perfect pecan pie. (Don't hold back!)

Once the brainstorming is complete, have everyone share their list. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the diversity and uniqueness of each family member. Then together, categorize each form of intellectual capital into different types of knowledge (artistic abilities, charitable experience, education, etc.).

Have a conversation about which items the group is interested in learning more about, or which items they would be willing to share and coach others in. Want to take it a step further? Have a family roundtable about what is not on the list. What knowledge gaps, if filled, could support collective goals? Individual goals? The goals of the rising generation?

Here is an example of a family's shared list. (60 minute activity depending on family size)
