Carlin Calcaterra

A seasoned investment strategist, practitioner, educator, and author with more than 15 years of experience in investment management.

As Pitcairn’s Managing Director of Investment Strategy, Carlin leads the development of customized investment solutions and partners with our multigenerational client families to craft portfolios that align with their distinct long-term goals. Carlin plays a central role in advancing Pitcairn’s strategic asset allocation capabilities and enhances the firm’s approach to wealth preservation across complex private and public markets. She also provides oversight across portfolios with a focus on risk management, evaluating exposures and structural considerations to help ensure portfolios remain resilient across market cycles.

Before joining Pitcairn, Carlin was a Managing Director and Co-Head of the Financial Advisor Solutions Team at Ares Management, where she championed private market education and insights for financial advisors. Her work helped advisors integrate private market allocations into diversified portfolios with thoughtful analytical rigor. Earlier in her career, she served as a senior principal and investment consultant at Mercer Investments and as a vice president and lead portfolio manager for multi-asset solutions at Goldman Sachs, where she acted as a discretionary institutional asset allocator. Throughout her career, she has developed deep expertise in strategic asset allocation, portfolio construction, cash flow-driven investing, and risk optimization.

Carlin’s published works span foundational educational material to advanced, quantitative strategy insights that bridge macroeconomic considerations with practical portfolio design. She is a regular contributor to the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association (CAIA) and actively involved in industry education. She holds a BA in Economics and French from Bucknell University and has earned the Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF), a leading postgraduate professional qualification in quantitative financ

Outside of the office, Carlin enjoys staying active and being outdoors. You can most often find her on nature walks, lost in long-form podcasts. She has a particular affinity for philosophy and history, particularly as they relate to the evolution of capital markets. She is also an avid tennis player, with a varsity letter from Bucknell’s Division I team. To relax, Carlin enjoys yoga and playtime with her cat, Regan.
