Wealth Management for Business Owners & Entrepreneurs

You're not selling. You're building. But the financial life around your company (the advisors, the portfolio, the planning) may not have kept pace with what you've built. Pitcairn helps owners redesign their current financial life and reimagine their future one.

Your Business Grew. Did Your Financial Life Grow With It?

Most successful owners assembled their financial team piece by piece over the years: a broker here, an accountant there, an attorney from an old deal, an insurance agent from way back. Each is capable. None sees the whole. Meanwhile, the portfolio outside the business often looks like it was built for someone else, someone without a company absorbing most of their net worth, their risk, and their attention.

The result is a common paradox. Owners run their companies with discipline, clear strategy, and accountable leadership, then accept a personal financial life with none of the three.

Pitcairn works with owners and entrepreneurs who have no intention of selling but every intention of running their wealth as well as they run their business. We help you redesign what exists today and reimagine what your financial life makes possible next.

People often seek our guidance around:

  • Structuring ownership ahead of a capital raise or sale
  • Preparing for a liquidity event or business transition
  • Separating personal and business balance sheets
  • Building a governance structure as the business scales
  • Integrating equity compensation into a broader financial plan
  • Transitioning from founder-led wealth to long-term stewardship

Redesign Your Current Financial Life

Investment strategy that respects the business you own

Your company is likely your largest holding, your largest risk, and your most demanding investment. We build the portfolio outside the business as its deliberate counterweight: diversified where the business is concentrated, liquid where the business is not, and steady where the business is cyclical.

One team with the whole picture

We coordinate your existing attorneys, accountants, bankers, and insurance advisors, or help you upgrade where a seat needs a stronger player. Someone finally owns the whole, not just a piece.

Your personal balance sheet, built with corporate rigor

Clear reporting across everything you own, entity structures that fit how you actually operate, credit and liquidity managed intentionally, and personal planning that accounts for the guarantees, obligations, and opportunities that come with ownership.

Protection for your family from the business's risks

Ownership concentrates risk on your household. We work with your advisors on the structures, insurance, and planning that keep a setback in the business from becoming a setback for your family.

Reimagine Your Future Financial Life

Redesign is about fixing what exists. Reimagining is about what becomes possible when your wealth has its own strategy.

With the right architecture, the wealth outside your business becomes more than a savings account for someday. It can fund the next venture without touching the company. It can create income streams independent of the business’s cycles. It can start the multigenerational planning, philanthropy, and family education that ownership never left time for. And if a transition ever does enter the picture, on your timeline and your terms, the foundation is already built.

If a sale or liquidity event is on your horizon, that is its own discipline. See our Business Advisory page.

Pitcairn as Your Outsourced Chief Investment Officer

Your company has a leadership team. Your wealth deserves one too. As your outsourced chief investment officer, Pitcairn brings institutional discipline to your personal capital.

Strategy

An investment policy built around your real situation: the business's size, risk, and cash flows, your liquidity needs, your tax profile, and your goals.

Access and implementation

Portfolio construction across public markets and private investments, with the access and due diligence of a century-old family office.

Oversight and accountability

Ongoing monitoring, rebalancing, transparent reporting, and regular reviews where we answer to you the way your leadership team answers to the board.

Fiduciary alignment

Pitcairn is independent and privately held. We sell no products and earn nothing from what we recommend. Our only compensation is the fee you see, and our only agenda is your outcome.

Our Engagement Model

Important moments do not stand apart from the longer story of family wealth. They shape it. Long-term planning helps ensure that today's decisions support future continuity, preserve flexibility, and reflect the values your family wants to carry forward.

Discovery & Diagnostic
We begin by listening. We learn your priorities, map your full financial picture, and identify what needs attention now versus what can wait.
Planning & Alignment
We develop a coordinated plan across investments, estate structures, tax considerations, and family goals, and we make sure you understand every element before anything moves forward.
Implementation Support
We coordinate with your attorneys, accountants, and other advisors to put the plan into action, so nothing falls between the seams of separate professional relationships.
Ongoing Review
We revisit the plan as your life, your family, and the landscape change, keeping decisions connected to evolving goals rather than fixed to a single moment in time.

Why Business Owners Choose Pitcairn

We were built by an operating family

Pitcairn began in 1923 with a family whose wealth came from building a company, not inheriting a portfolio. A century later, we still think like owners: about concentration, about control, about the difference between the business’s money and the family’s money.

Family office depth without the family office overhead

Through our Shared Single-Family Office® model, you get integrated investments, planning, tax coordination, trust services, and reporting, without building and staffing your own operation.

Independent and staying that way

We are privately held with no plans to sell, which means the firm you hire is the firm you keep. We compete on nothing but the quality of the work.

Common Questions from Business Owners & Entrepreneurs

What is an outsourced chief investment officer?

An outsourced CIO is a firm that takes on the strategy, implementation, and oversight of your investment portfolio with the discipline an institution would apply: a written investment policy, professional due diligence, ongoing monitoring, and accountability for results. For a business owner, it means your personal capital finally gets the same caliber of leadership your company gets.

Most of my net worth is in my business. How should the rest be invested?

As a deliberate counterweight. Because your business is typically concentrated, illiquid, and exposed to a specific industry and geography, the portfolio outside it generally works hardest when it is diversified, more liquid, and built to hold steady when the business cannot. The right balance depends on your company's risk profile, your cash flows, and your goals, which is exactly what an investment policy is for.

I already have a financial advisor. Why would I change?

Many owners outgrow the advisor who served them well at an earlier stage. Signals it may be time: your advisor has never asked hard questions about the business itself, your accounts are managed as if the company doesn't exist, no one coordinates your attorney, CPA, and insurance coverage, or your reporting can't show you everything you own in one place. A second opinion costs nothing and often clarifies the decision either way.

Do I need to be planning a sale to work with Pitcairn?

No. This work assumes you keep the business. Many of our owner clients have no exit plans at all. If a sale ever does become relevant, the planning foundation we build together makes that path easier, and our exit planning advisors are down the hall. But nothing about this relationship requires or expects a transaction.

Will Pitcairn work with my existing accountant and attorney?

Yes. Coordination is the core of the role. We work with your existing advisors, bring structure to how the team operates together, and give you an honest view if any seat needs strengthening. You stay in control of who is on the team.

What does "redesigning my financial life" actually involve?

It starts with a diagnostic: a complete map of your assets, entities, advisors, documents, and cash flows, inside and outside the business. From there we identify what's missing, what's redundant, and what's misaligned, then sequence the fixes: investment strategy first or planning first, depending on where the risk sits. Most owners tell us the consolidated picture alone was worth the exercise.
